A 2-hour virtual professional development course to create stress-free lab days and simplify your life as a secondary science teacher!

$30.00

THE MINI-COURSE YOU WISH YOU HAD TAKEN IN YOUR TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM!

This 2-hr virtual professional development will take you from stressed to PREPARED as you are equipped with strategies and procedures that will make lab days your favorite days!

STOP working harder and START working SMARTER!

“I loved this!! My second year has gone much more smoothly than my first. My classes are running much more smoothly. I think the big takeaway for me was that if something isn’t working, make a procedure for it. Systems run the way they’re designed and if the system is going off the rails, you can do something about it. We all like structure! I appreciate Rebecca and her courses soooo much!”

Rachel M., High School Science Teacher

What's included in this course?

The goal of this mini-course is to optimize what you have for labs (regardless of how much or little) and to establish systems and procedures to remove all of the stress surrounding labs. To do this, we will conduct a thorough audit of your lab to determine the best way to work with what you have – even if it isn’t much. We will create a set of “day of” routines and systems that will set you up for stress-free lab days. We will discuss how to make every lab experience meaningful – no more doing labs just for the sake of fulfilling a “lab science” requirement.  Lastly, we will talk through grading strategies so that you are never stuck with a foot-high stack of lab reports to grade on your desk again!

At the end of this course, you will feel 100% confident in how to prep, administer, and grade labs without exhausting yourself.

This mini-course is the fifth “unit” in my comprehensive Secondary Science Simplified® virtual PD bundle.  To check out the full bundle with over 15 hours of virtual professional development, click here.

It will take *2 hours to watch all of the video content (broken down into 5 separate video lessons).

However, at the end of each lesson, I give suggested “homework” and reflection questions for you to walk through.  If you do all of the homework and use the support documents as recommended, it will most likely take you an additional 2-3 hours to work through it all.

*Note: The hours on the PD certificate included reflect only the time spent on the video lessons, as the additional time it will take to do the rest of the content will vary by teacher.  Thus for consistency’s sake, all PD certificates included in my virtual PD courses are based on the amount of video content included.

It does not.  All of the instructional content is delivered as pre-recorded videos on YouTube.  This allows you the flexibility to work ENTIRELY at your OWN PACE and to consume the content whenever it best fits into YOUR schedule!

I totally get that, which is EXACTLY why I created a free virtual PD mini-course you can try out first before making an investment in this one!

My Labs When Limited mini-course is entirely free and designed to equip teachers who feel like they have limited time, resources, space, and energy to execute labs.  It is set up exactly like this mini-course is so you can see the style before you invest!

In addition, if you find value in this smaller free course, you will ABSOLUTELY find value in this one!

Still unsure?  Check out my free podcast for secondary science teachers here!  This will help you discern if you like my teaching style as well.

I of course cannot speak for ALL schools and districts, but from my personal experience (and what I’ve heard from many, many teachers I’ve become connected with through It’s Not Rocket Science®), most PD opportunities provided by the district are not created by people with any classroom experience and are rarely relevant or applicable to what you are doing in your classroom.  Many PD opportunities that are provided by the school are generic and not specific to being a secondary science teacher.

Oftentimes I found that these types of PD courses ADDED to my load rather than lessening it.

THIS course, however, was written BY a secondary science teacher FOR secondary science teachers.

Everything in it is PRACTICAL and MANAGEABLE. No theories or hypothetical examples that are completely unrealistic. Every example will be from my own experiences, with my own unpredictable students. Every strategy and system will be one I have actually used myself – both in a public high school and in a private school. I’ve been in your shoes and thus you can count on this course, and all my others, to be authentic and practical.

Out of ALL of the courses I took in my undergraduate teacher certification program and the two years of my graduate teaching degree, I never once had a course on lab days.  Which is crazy, right?!  How are we to expect secondary science teachers to know how to do labs safely and effectively if we never teach them how to do so?

This was one of the main factors that motivated me to specifically write this mini-course, but also the Secondary Science Simplified® bundle as a whole.  I wanted to teach other secondary science teachers all that I wish I had been taught in my training programs, rather than having to learn it all the hard way through trial and a whole lot of error.

Most science teachers teach lab-based science courses that require at least 40% of time to be spent in lab.  That is a LOT of time spent doing something that stresses and overwhelms the majority of teachers I talk to.  This mini-course is for YOU if you, too, feel overwhelmed, stressed, and ill-equipped to run lab days safely and effectively without running yourself ragged.  The strategies and systems I share will simplify your lab days, and thus, your life!

I am always hesitant to recommend anything to teachers outside of my wheelhouse.  ALL of my teaching experience has been as a high school science teacher (with the exception of a few sections of 8th grade physical science a few years at the small private school I taught in.) Because of this, all of the information taught in my courses will be delivered from that perspective.  I am confident that my resources will serve high school science teachers.

I think if you are a middle school science teacher, a lot of this would still apply to you.  I recommend first checking out my free podcast and seeing if you find value in it. If you do, then I think you could still find value in this mini-course despite me not a lot of middle school teaching experience.

If you are a non-science high school teacher, this will be of no help to you because the content is all about labs.

YES!  As soon as you purchase the mini-course you will immediately receive a link that you can click to download a zip file.  The zip file contains a folder that holds all of the resources and video links.

Due to the nature of digital resources, I cannot accept refund requests for any courses or resources that have been downloaded. This is because you cannot “return” the resources you purchased once you’ve downloaded them (like you can return a shirt you purchased and decide you don’t like.)

This is why I urge you to email me at rebecca@itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com with any questions you have prior to purchasing so that I can help you determine if this mini-course is a good fit for you or not.
